Abstract
As introductory graduate level qualitative research courses gain popularity and the use of computer‐assisted qualitative data analysis software [CAQDAS] programmes become more commonplace among researchers, instructors will be pressed to consider whether these programmes should be included within their courses. This paper explores the issue by drawing on the author's experience with The Ethnograph.Using concepts from Hall and Hord's Concern Based Adoption Model, the paper addresses four issues: [a] Using CAQDAS as part of a qualitative research course; [b] Activities associated with introducing CAQDAS as a course innovation; [c] Instructor concerns associated with introducing this innovation; and [d] Implications derived from the use of CAQDAS for instructors and students in qualitative research courses and for individuals in the qualitative research community.
