'Life' for a non-progressor

Pages 5-10 | Published online: 27 May 2010

Abstract

A "non-progressor" with HIV, diagnosed in 1984, comments from a personal perspective on how people with HIV are affected by social and professional attitudes. The failure of some professionals to develop an understanding of HIV beyond their own particular field of expertise contributes to the disempowerment experienced by those infected and can result in broader social and and psychosocial aspects of HIV, such as discrimination, being inadequately addressed.
