Abstract

Strategic culture sensitive therapy is presented as a particularly useful treatment approach in cases of major therapist-client differences in cultural or religious background. The therapist should be well informed about the client's cultural background, and should join the client's explanatory model and provide interventions based upon the cultural symbols, rituals, and metaphors of the client. Three sample therapy cases are presented based upon our work with ultra-orthodox Jews. The model is readily applicable for interventions with clients from other cultural backgrounds.
