Value for money in the education service

Pages 15-22 | Published online: 07 Jan 2009

Abstract

Output measures in education, as elsewhere, are notoriously tricky. But one way of measuring value for money is to compare the efficiency with which money is turned into resources. A combination of original research and hitherto unpublished data collected by the Department of Education and Science enables comparisons of managerial efficiency to be extended over a wide range of indicators.
