Since its role was extended into the public sector in 1980, the Monopolies 8c Mergers Commission has investigated over a dozen industries and authorities. Accountable only to the Secretary of State for Trade 8c Industry, there has been no public discussion of how it sets about its work, what generalisable conclusions can be drawn from its findings, or how its recommendations have been followed up.
