Abstract

Earlier this year, the Comptroller & Auditor‐General gave the Suntory Toyota lecture at the London School of Economics. Posing as it did the central question at the heart of his work ‐ and at the heart of public money's raison d'être too ‐ and ranging over the whole of the public sector, we reprint that lecture below, with only minor deletions.
