Social ownership and the reform of the nationalised industries: The Labour Party's plans

Pages 19-24 | Published online: 07 Jan 2009

Abstract

People on all parts of the political spectrum have criticised the traditional form of public ownership ‐ the nationalised corporation. If that is not to be replaced, as the present Government would have it, through privatisation, what are the alternatives? The Labour Party has been attempting to define some, and in so doing to replace the concept of the Morrisonian corporation by what it considers the more democratic and accountable one of social ownership.
