Management development in the NHS: Crossing professional boundaries

The national health service is a good example of a highly complex, multi‐professional organisation. General management has been introduced as a means of improving the integration of services. To make a reality of the formal structures, however, professional boundaries should also be breached by cross‐functional development programmes.
