Abstract
Spending on Personal Social Services in the 1980s (which includes community care and the care of children) is reviewed and explained. The likelihood of a growth in expenditure the 1990s is explored ‐ it is estimated that by 1999 the programme will cost between £11 and £13 billion a year.
