The application of quality techniques: achieving a balance

Abstract

The uses of various quality improvement techniques are considered both in the context of Ford Total Quality Excellence and the balance of their use in the various stages of the product cycle The need to ensure that considerable effort is directed upstream during product design as well as downstream during manufacturing is stressed and ways in which this may be achieved outlined The importance of the people who use such techniques as a part of TQM is emphasized.
