Shaping Educational Technology: Ontario's Educational Computing Initiative

Pages 129-134 | Published online: 09 Jul 2006

SUMMARY

What influence can education have on computer technology? The province of Ontario developed functional specifications for an educational computer in the hope of supporting the local hardware and software industry while providing educators with an advanced technology. The initiative was well funded and met its goal of providing an equitable distribution of computers across the province. The initiative failed, however, to meet educators’ demands for the type of computer technology which became so widely popular in the 1980s.
