Staff Development for School Administrators: Participative Approach

Pages 252-260 | Published online: 09 Jul 2006

SUMMARY

The participative training approach (PTA) is suggested as an additional tool for the training of school administrators. It utilizes brainstorming and Japanese Theory Z principles, efficiently enabling school administrators themselves to identify and define their own training issues and to brainstorm and discuss them. It emphasizes the importance of using school administrators’ accumulated experience, existing skills and cognitions, while stressing the professional socialization of participants. The ramifications of PTA on newer approaches to administrative staff development are discussed.
