Electron Spin Resonance Studies of Radiation Damage in Deoxyribonucleic Acid

Pages 357-365 | Received 08 Aug 1966, Published online: 03 Jul 2009

Summary

Electron spin resonance (E.S.R.) spectroscopy has been used to make quantitative and qualitative measurements on irradiated deoxyribonucleic acid. Radical yields in six different samples are compared with those determined by other workers. The E.S.R. spectrum shows that the radiation produces at least two radical species, and the nature of one of these is discussed in detail.
