Summary
Effects of 300 kVp X-radiation on silver(I)-complexed calf thymus DNA in neutral aqueous solution were determined by spectrophotometric and sedimentation methods. Complexed silver ion in the ratio of one Ag+: two DNA bases does not increase the radiosensitivity of DNA. Experiments with added N2O and alcohols implicate the hydroxyl radical as the most important damaging species in both native DNA and Ag+-bound DNA.
