Abstract

The study examines a sample of 28 convicted female murderers during the early stages of a sentence of life imprisonment. Psychiatric and demographic issues are examined along with an assessment of prison behaviour. Earlier studies which suggested that the killer's own children were the primary focus, have not been confirmed. The presence of mental disorder was higher than expected and has serious implications for management.
