Editorial: Learning from diversity: HRM is not Lycra

Abstract

This editorial article outlines the origin of this special edition of IJHRM in the ‘Learning from Diversity’ global conference held in Barcelona in June 2001. It uses the notion of diversity to explore and critique the notion of ‘best practice’ and other work which implies that there is a best way to manage human resources and leads to isomorphism. On the contrary, the paper argues that in HRM no ‘one size fits all’. The articles in this volume are outlined as examples of the need to learn from diversity.
