Introduction

Introduction to special issue on people with disabilities in the workplace

, &

Notes

1. The US unemployment rate, reflecting those actively searching for work as a percent of the workforce, was more than twice as high among workers with disabilities as among those without disabilities in 2014 (12.5% compared to 5.9%) (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Citation2015). Only 26.0% of working-age people with disabilities were employed, compared to 72% of persons without disabilities.

2. In addition to anti-discrimination legislation, some countries use a quota approach that requires companies to employ a certain percentage of people with disabilities in their workforce. See http://www.igloballaw.com/the-world-and-disability-quotas-or-no-quotas/
