Treatment of Leather Board Effluents by a Coagulation / Flocculation Process

Pages 857-860 | Published online: 11 May 2010

Abstract

A coagulation/flocculation process for the treatment of leather board effluents is described in which ferric chloride in conjunction with lime and alum is used as a coagulating/flocculating agent. The various factors affecting coagulation/flocculation like coagulant ratio, coagulant sequence, pH, temperature and retention time have been investigated. The optimum coagulant dose has been determined. The process reduces the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) by 80–90% and also chemical oxygen demand (COD) by 80–85%.
