The Development and Evaluation of Chemically Modified Sorbents for Monitoring VOCs in Air and Water

Pages 949-954 | Published online: 11 May 2010

Abstract

Two kinds of packings with chemically bonded phases (CBPs) have been prepared: one of them by mixing seven CBPs in equal weight proportions (mixture of CBPs); the second in a two-stage chemical modification of silica gel by various organosilanes (multiligand-adsorbent). Obtained materials have been characterized by different physicochemical methods, such as: porosity and elemental analysis, FT IR and solid-state NMR, in order to describe the structure of surface and thus elucidate its role in the sorption processes. Both packings have been applied for trapping of air and/or water contaminants. It has been noticed that on account of homogeneous structure as well as sorption and chromatographic properties, multiligand-adsorbent can be used for routine control and monitoring of air and water pollution.
