A Preliminary Investigation into the Use of Sodium Ferrate in Water Treatment

Pages 1157-1161 | Published online: 11 May 2010

Abstract

This paper describes some preliminary tests on the use of sodium ferrate as a reagent for drinking water treatment. The manufacture and purification of the reagent by a low temperature method is described. Tests were carried out for colour and manganese removal using the ferrate as a flocculant. There is some indication that much less ferrate than ferric flocculant is needed for colour removal. Sodium ferrate is also an effective remover of manganese.
