A Proposed Method Modification for the Determination of COD in Saline Waters

Abstract

This work presents a modification of the method 5220 D [1] utilizing a digestion apparatus (Hach, model 45600). The proposed method was tested exhaustively using a synthetic wastewater with variable COD and chloride contents. The results indicate that the proposed modification eliminated the chloride interference on COD determination up to 6000 mg Cl l⁻¹, when the sample COD content was higher than 50 mg l⁻¹.
