Abstract
Research into the applications of the process of nitrification mediated formation of organic N in environmental systems is complicated because commonly used laboratory methods for the determination of N fail to include all N species involved or are sensitive to interferences. These methods were therefore tested on 11 compounds of importance for this process. The MgO and Devarda method appeared free of interferences. The persulphate method covered a wider range of organic N‐compounds than the conventional Kjeldahl method.
