Abstract

Three kinds of resin adsorbents have been used to separate humic acid from water and inorganic salts and to fractionate these solutes into six compound classes. The multistep process consists of adsorption chromatography followed by cation and anion exchange chromatography, rotary vacuum evaporation, desalting and crystallisation. It recovered 96% of the total mass of humic acid from 2 litres of 400mg−1 humic acid solution.
