Abstract

The leachate from a sea‐based solid waste disposal site is treated by the combined process of a facultative pre‐treatment pond and aerated lagoon. The plankton and macrobenthic fauna of the aerated lagoon were studied and their ecological structure was clarified to improve the aerated lagoon's activity. Plankton and macrobenthos appeared were few dominant genera. Phytoplankton, especially Bacillariophyceae, grew more in summer and decreased with drop in temperature. Number of Rotatoria varied with phytoplankton's mass. Number of Ciliata changed with bacteria mass. Dominant macrobenthos commonly had tolerance to lower dissolved oxygen level.
