Abstract

Townroe P. M. (1975) The labour factor in the post-move experience of mobile companies. Reg. Studies 9, 335–347. Labour issues, although given prominence in the search and decision processes of location choice by manufacturing companies, give problems to a significant minority of plants established in new locations. Based on the evidence of two surveys, these problems are discussed in two groups: those occurring at the transitional stage of running-in a new plant, and those occuring during the subsequent 4–6 years. The results show that labour problems are more important for certain categories of mobile company than for others and certain conclusions are drawn both for public policy and for company planning.
