Abstract
Formal teaching for general practice in alcohol and drug-related illness and problems is developing both in the vocational training and continuing medical education streams. Undergraduate teaching is not highly structured nor coordinated as a transdisciplinary topic, so the base-line level for beginning post-graduate teaching must assume a nil data base on the part of the participants, but must be formulated to maintain interest by those who have greater experience than this.
