Abstract

In the outer Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne there are significant community projects. The Maroondah Social Health Centre looks at the social and emotional needs of the community, helping to reduce the loneliness and lack of self-esteem which can lead to alcoholism and addictive behaviour. Maroondah Alcohol Recovery Project with its two half-way houses for dry alcoholic men and women, besides helping the long term rehabilitation of its residents, is helping the community to understand the problems of alcoholism and addictive behaviour.
