Hemineglect and extinction

Pages 221-224 | Published online: 24 Oct 2007

Abstract

The term “hemineglect” is usually used to refer to the ignoring of, or failure to respond to, stimuli delivered on one side of the body or circumambient hemispace, even when there may not be primary sensory or motor loss. This definition, however, does not differentiate hemineglect from extinction, and does not consider the selective, dissociative and positive features of the behaviour.
