Notes

1. The Construction Research and Innovation Strategy Panel (CRISP) was established in 1995; it became nCRISP, i.e. new CRISP, in December 2002. nCRISP had a remit to bring together industry, government, and the research community in the UK in order to identify and develop priorities for construction research.

2. Fairclough was responsible for Rethinking Construction Innovation and Research: A Review of Government R&D Policies and Practices (2002).

3. An nCRISP task group was established to oversee the work. The draft final report was presented and discussed at an nCRISP industry Awayday in October 2003. Nigel Griffiths MP, Minister for Construction in November 2003, launched the final report. Pearce's presentations of the report were well received. It was well reviewed in the technical press, although the description and analysis in the report was probably not controversial enough to make a big impact. Circulation of the report, in hard copy and as downloads from the nCRISP website, was healthy – certainly well in the thousands.
