Numerous studies carried out by the Women and Law Research and Education Trust in various Southern African countries, including Malawi, have shown that even when human rights are fully guaranteed in law, and women know those rights, the actual entitlements may not be fully realised because of administrative problems.
The study was carried out under the auspices of the Gender Studies and Outreach Unit at Chancellor College, University of Malawi. Development Alternatives Inc. funded the study through a grant from the NGOs Small Grants Program of USAID. The author was one of the principal investigators.
