After 4 years as Co-Editor, Torberg Falch is stepping down. During this time, we have seen marked increases in submission numbers, quality of submitted papers and have, at the same time, reduced time until first decision. I thank Torberg for all his work on the journal and his help which made these improvements possible. I am delighted that Lindsey Macmillan (Institute of Education, University College London) has agreed to take over as Co-Editor. John Heywood remains as the other co-editor and Torberg will continue to be involved with the journal as he moves to the advisory editorial board.
Submission numbers remain strong. As of the 29th of November, we have received 156 submissions for the calendar year.

Of the 168 first decisions made in the last 12 months, 26 papers have been invited for revision. Our acceptance rate was 17.8% for the last year, this is in line with the acceptance rate for 2017 (18%). These are lower than our historical acceptance rates of 19% (2013), 24% (2014), 21% (2015) and 21% (2016).
We continue to keep time until first decision low. Average time until first decision is 54 days and 100 days conditional on the manuscript being sent to referees.
