Pages 104-110 | Published online: 01 Feb 2008

Abstract

This paper is based on some unexpected findings in the course of an examination of the use of legal action in non-attendance cases. This Sheffield-based research initially included an examination of both the law on school attendance and national and local decision-making trends in the adult and juvenile courts. As we shall go on to illustrate, our inquiries in respect of the practice of one juvenile court produced some surprising and, in our view, disturbing results.
