The police and social services departments in england and wales: The exchange of personal information

Abstract

The purpose of this paper¹ is to make an audit of all those points of interaction between the police and social services departments, through which the exchange of personal information takes place on a daily basis. An attempt is made to highlight the sub-cultural nature of these exchanges as well as the civil liberty implications, but it is suggested that, in future, we might usefully examine such exchanges in the light of a framework that draws on wider social theory.
