The role and function of child contact centres

Pages 53-60 | Published online: 01 Feb 2008

Abstract

Every week 2,000 children attend a contact centre in England, Wales or Scotland to meet and play with either their mother or father or maybe both or other family members in a controlled environment. Why has there been a phenomenal growth in such centres in the past ten years? Why is funding for the centres piecemeal and generally not from Government sources? Do they help or hinder the post-separation period of adjustment?
