Abstract
Trials using glyphosate were carried out in forest plantations in Papua New Guinea. Weed control in three types of plantation was examined:
a. | plantations in grasslands dominated by Imperata cylindrica (L.) P. Beauv.
b. | plantations with mixed grass and broadleaved weeds.
c. | plantations established in logged over rainforest and having vines, creepers and remnant woody broadleaved species as weeds. |
Glyphosate at the rate of 2 kg/ha or more was effective in all situations and the herbicide shows considerable promise as a simple post-emergent herbicide in forest plantations with mixed weed populations.
