U.l.v. Spraying for Cowpea in Northern Nigeria

Pages 327-332 | Published online: 06 Jul 2009

Abstract

Insecticide spraying trials conducted over a period of four years, 1970 to 1974, have shown that u.l.v. spraying using various formulations is as effective as conventional low volume sprays in increasing the yield of cowpea. More than ten-fold increase in yield may be obtained from a crop protected from insect damage by insecticide applications. In northern Nigeria where water is not often readily available the choice open to the farmer is to use u.l.v. spraying or not to spray at all.
