Abstract
The application of pre-emergence herbicides at low dosage rates in combination with manual weeding reduces weeding costs for smallholders by about 40% as compared to hand weeding or to herbicide application at the recommended rate. Moreover, the combined method appears to be safer with respect to climatic influences and phytotoxic effects. Results obtained from field trials on experimental farms are discussed.
