Review of Recent Editions of Derrida Texts

Notes

3 Rodrigo Therezo, ‘From a Neutral Dasein to a Gentle Twofold: Sexual Difference in Heidegger and Derrida’ Philosophy Today 63:2 (2019), 491.

5 References for the first appearances of the original English translations are not given, only to their subsequent republication much later in the translation of the French volume Psyche: Inventions of the Other Derrida’s texts. It is not apparent either that the translators on both occasions were, respectively, Ruben Berezdivin and John P. Leavey. Jr. These were: ‘Geschlecht I: Sexual Difference, Ontological Difference’ Research in Phenomenology 13 (1983), 65–83; ‘Heidegger’s Hand (Geschlecht II)’ in John Sallis (ed.) Deconstruction and Philosophy: the Texts of Jacques Derrida (Chicago U.P, 1987), 161–96.

8 Michael Lewis, Heidegger Beyond Deconstruction: On Nature (Bloomsbury, 2008).

9 The only review of the book that I could find noted: ‘while Derrida’s reading of Heidegger, and thus the Heidegger presented in deconstruction, is rejected and argued against in the book, Lewis does not write extensively on Derrida’s critique … Lewis presents his alternative reading of Heidegger casually … Derrida is merely taken as a foil’. Anthony Paul Smith, Review of Heidegger beyond Deconstruction in Journal of the British Society for Phenomenology 40:1 (2009), 109–11.

10 A more recent book by the same author takes a more affirmatory stance towards Derrida. I will discuss the extent to which this volume successfully accounts for his positions in a forthcoming publication.
