The research investigated engagement with school activities by secondary school students. Digital classrooms require visual information to be accessed and processed in a different way to traditional pen and paper. Visual Light Hypersensitivity is a sensory state in which light, such as that from a computer, leads to discomfort, nausea or pain.
Examination of digital media policy and practices were incorporated into a mixed methods approach, informing survey and interview of students with Visual Light Hypersensitivity. Results include duration of digital media use in schools by device and subject, and recommendations for design guidelines for more inclusive school digital media use.
