Thirty 4 1/2 months old New Zealand White female rabbits, divided into 5 groups of 6 rabbits each, were used to investigate the possible effect of graded levels of orabolin: ampicillin combination on their growth rate and oestrous behaviour under humid tropical conditions. Four dose levels designated as Groups A to D namely 100 μg/kg: 20 mg/kg of body weight of orabolin: ampicillin 50 μg/kg: 10 mg/kg; 25 μg/kg: 5 mg/kg and 12.5 μg/kg: 2.5 mg/kg were administered through the concentrate feed. The control group (E) received basal feed without these additives. Significant (P<0.05) improvement in body weight gain was observed in the rabbits fed the supplemented diets except those of group A. Feed conversion efficiency was significantly (P<0.05) higher among the treatment groups than in the control group. The mean frequency and intensity of oestrus as well as mean length of the oestrous cycle were also significantly improved in the rabbits administered the orabolin: ampicillin Supplemented diets. It was concluded that adding orabolin: ampicillin combination at appropriately low levels to diets of young rabbits improved performance and was economical.
