Abstract

Sumano, H., Basurto, H., Cabrera, J., Morales, R. and Mateos, G. 1993. Effects of acupuncture on the postpartum anestrus in zebu cattle. J. Appl. Anim. Res., 4: 41–46.

Fourty cows having 100 to 150 days postpartum anestrus were divided at random in four groups: (A-treated with acupuncture and management; B-treated with management; C-treated only with acupuncture and D-untreated control). Groups A and C showed shorter mean calving to first estrus and treatment to first estrus intervals. Groups A and C had greater conception rates but differences were not statistically significant. These results suggest that acupuncture with or without temporary weaning can have an important role in increasing Zebu cattle fertily by shortening their postpartum anestrus.
