Abstract
Nazer, A.H.K. and Mohsenzadeh, M. 1993. Distribution of R-factor and antibiogram of Escherichia coli isolated from dairy products in Fars province of Iran: Its public health implications, J. Appl. Anim. Res., 4: 99–106.
The antibiotic resistance pattern and the distribution of R-factor among E.coli isolated from dairy products (cheese, milk, butter, yoghurt and icecream) were studied The observations revealed that 93 (39.57%) of a total of 235 isolates were resistant to one or more drugs. Ampicillin and tetracycline showed the highest resistance. Forty-one (44.09%) of the resistant strains were capable of transferring either a part or the entire resistance patterns to sensitive recipient strain (E.coli-Kl2). The public health implication of R-factor among E.coli isolated from dairy products has been discussed.
