Abstract

Berepubo, N.A., Wekhe, S.N., Iheobi, J. and Jumbo, I. 1996. Body weight response of young poults and pre-market age adult turkeys to dietary orabolin (ethylestrenol). J. Appl. Anim. Res., 9: 181–185.

Three separate but related experiments were carried out to test the effect of dietary orabolin or its combination with ampicillin on body weight gain or feed conversion efficiency in pre-market stage adult turkeys and young turkey poults, respectively. The anabolic steroid and steroid I antibiotic combination were administered through feed and water (Groups A and B) while control group C received plain feed and water. Except for linear differences mostly in favour of the treatment groups, there was no significant difference (P>0.05) in respect of feed intake, feed efficiency and body weight gain among the birds of different groups in all the three experiments. It has been concluded that supplementation of diet with orabolin with or without ampicillin at this rate was not beneficial.
