Abstract

Lee, C. 1999. Genetic antagonism between direct and maternal effects. J. Appl. Anim. Res., 15: 105–116.

Negative genetic correlations between direct and maternal effects for weaning weight were found from beef cattle data. There has been much debate over the biological existence of this genetic antagonism. Recent research oil estimating the genetic correlation were reviewed. To explain genetic antagonism, inclusion of the direct-maternal genetic covariance in the analytical models was proposed, with a biological justification.
