Abstract

Potkanski, A. and Nowak, W. 2000. Effect of rapeseed oil on effective protein degradability and intestinal protein digestibility of oat, rapeseed meal and dried sugarbeet pulp. J. Appl. Anim. Res., 18: 81–89.

To determine the effect of added fat on the ruminal protein degradability and intestinal digestibility of oat, rapeseed meal (RSM) and dried sugarbeet pulp (DSBP), three Jersey heifers (450kg) with ruminal and intestinal cannulae were fed on complete diets containing 0, 3 and 6% rapeseed oil. Effective protein degradability (79% for oat, 64% for RSM and 45% for DSBP) differed significantly. Addition of 6% RS oil slightly reduced the effective protein digestibility for DSBP. Intestinal digestibility also depended on the type of feed and addition of 6% rapeseed oil increased it for RSM and DSBP.
