Defender against cell death 1 (DAD1) is a negative regulator of apoptosis and a subunit of the oligosaccharyltransferase complex. DAD1 was cloned from the spleen of Bos grunniens using reverse- transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Sequence analysis of the cDNA encoding the DAD1 homologue of Bos grunniens revealed that the 596-bp cDNA has an open reading frame of 113 amino acid residues. The encoded protein shows 95–99% identities to other homologues. Semi-quantitative RT-PCR analyses showed that mRNA of DAD 1 can be detected in the spleen, heart, liver and kidney, but not in muscle and mammary glands of Bos grunniens. The present study will serve as a base for understanding the exact function of DAD 1 in Bos grunniens.
