Abstract

Surbhi, Kinjavdekar, P., Amarpal, Aithal, H.P., Pawde, A.M. and Malik, V. 2010. Comparison of analgesic effects of Meloxicam and Ketoprofen using university of Melbourne pain scale in clinical canine orthopaedic patients. J. Appl. Anim. Res., 38: 261–264.

Twenty four canine orthopaedic patients were equally divided into 2 groups M (meloxicam @ 0.2 mg/kg) and K (ketoprofen @ 2 mg/kg). They were further divided into two sub groups M1, M2 and K1, K2 based on operative anaesthesia. Analgesics were administered post operatively for 5 d. Fain was evaluated on d 0, 1, 3 and 5 after administration of analgesia. Both meloxicam and ketoprofen provided a comparable degree of analgesia as evaluated by UMPS. UMPS is a reliable method for evaluation of response to analgesics in canine orthopaedic patients.
