Abstract

Kumar, S.S.H., Dass, L.L. and Sharma, A.K. 2010. Cannabis Indica (Bhang) extract as preanaesthetic to propofol anaesthesia in dogs. J. Appl. Anim. Res., 37: 125–127.

To study the effect of Cannabis Indica as pre anesthetic 12 healthy dogs were divided in two equal groups. Ether extract of cannabis was injected intraperitoneally to group II dogs half an hour prior to the administration of propofol. The dogs premedicated with cannabis showed early onset of anaesthesia and a marked reduction in dose rate of propofol. However, prolonged recumbency with ropy saliva makes cannabis unsuitable as preanaesthetic with propofol. Larger studies have been recommended.
