Sequence variability and structural homology in BF2 gene was studied between red jungle fowl and different poultry species including chicken. Size variation was observed in exon 2 and exon 3 between red jungle fowl and other poultry species. Red jungle fowl showed least sequence variability in both the exons (3.40% −5.49%) with chicken in comparison to poultry species other than chicken (11.23% to 27.65%). The trend was similar for the amino acid sequence variability, however, the estimates were higher than those for nucleotide sequence variability. Red jungle fowl BF2 gene showed the overall conservation of a1 and a2 domains. Phylogenetic tree based on nucleotide variability as well as amino acid variability revealed two major clusters, comprising of guinea fowl, quail, chicken and RJF in one, duck and goose in other.
