Hatching Traits of Quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) Eggs Disinfected with Carvacrol, Cinnamaldehyde or Thymol

To determine the suitability of some antimicrobial essential oils including carvacrol, cinnamaldehyde or thymol compounds with l%(v/v) solutions as a possible quail hatching eggs disinfectant versus quaternary ammonium compounds (0.1%) eggs were divided into 4 treatment groups, each one containing 248 eggs and randomly allocated into 4 incubator trays so that each treatment had 4 replicates. No significant differences for hatching traits including chick weights at pull time among groups were observed. Thus all essential oil compounds used in the study could be regarded as alternative hatching egg disinfectant for quails with current dosage.
